Surgery summary

Thanks for those that prayed for my surgery .. everything went really well and better than what i anticipated.

My surgery started late probably because the patient before me was delayed . At 9.30 am , i waited until 10.30am in the pre surgery room .that felt like the longest hour because i was probably nervous. After that , the anesthesiologist and surgeon came in to greet me . The surgeon looked stress for some reason , don't know why. They gave me an IV , drew 5 marks on my leg for the 5 holes and wheeled me into the theatre room . It was really cold there that i shook uncontrollably. There were around 7 people there waiting for me and before i could analyze everything i was given anesthetic. Fought hard not to let it beat me but i lost.

2.30 hours later i woke up in the recovery room . I was so sleepy yet found it painful . The nurses were running around giving quatities of morphin. I realised also that i had a oxygen mask on. Finally after 3 shots of morphin i finally calmed down from the pain and stopped breathing heavily. 30 minutes onwards i was introduced to a new nurse , stella . She took me to my ward . All i could feel at that time was being thirsty. Fortunately all the pain was gone. She mentioned that the other nurses gave me a lot of morphin... =(

I asked her for a cup of water and before i could let the few sips settle in me,i threw up everything. This happened was few minutes and i was sick in the stomach. I. Thought it was be the morphin, as i was pretty sure i read of someone having similiar experience on the internet.

1.00pm, i was glad to see a pair of familiar faces . Mum and dad came to visit me and brought me some books and my tablet in case i was bored. I wasnt because all i wanted to do was lie down and rest. They left after a while while i tried to sleep with other patients around me watching their private tv. Yea, it was a private hospital so everyone had their own TVs.

I was woken up every 4 hours for the pain killers but i still couldn't feel much pain because i had a nerve block which they jab into my groin prior to surgery .

I managed to sleep through the night so i was pretty pleased about it. Oh btw, the hospital food was really good . We even had menus to choose from.

I read in forums that i couldnt shower for days after surgery so i was really surprised when the nurse asked me if i wanted a shower. I said yes and she gave me a water proof dressing. While changing the dressing, i looked down on my knee and saw all the holes that were there . So much for sexy legs...now it should be more manly despite the lack of hair because the nurse shaved it prior to surgery.

Now im back home resting and i had to get up each 4 hours because thats when i could feel the pain. Its winter here too so its been pretty cold each night . (Makes me go to the toilet more often ).

Overall , i am quite pleased with the surgery.the surgeon gave me 42 days off work .good thing about it in nz we can claim these under ACC . I should be able to get 80% of my monthly salary while im still recovering. Once this is over, i can't wait to go over to Melbourne to see shannon =)

So thanks to family and friends for praying for me. Wouldn't have had a such a smooth operation without you =) love u all !

Richard's Surgery

Today is the Richard faces his nightmare... ACL sugery. I just gave him a call and heard from him and he had vomited several times due to the amount of morphine he was given. My poor bee... Sigh.. Wish I was there for him.. but i can't...

I keep imagining him in the hospital gown with his parents besides him taking care of him... I imagine how he looks like when he vomits .. LOL.. I imagine how is he going to go to the toilet..

There's gonna be some drastic changes to his lifestyle for the next few weeks.. but i'm sure he'll be ok because he is my bee! =)

A few hours before going in

So im lying on my bed , preparing for tomorrows surgery at 7.15am .. not feeling too worried and even when im about to doze off i thought i should jot whatever is going in my head down since its not often we get surgeries...fingers crossed.
At this point of time , my girl friend is having dinner with a good guy friend after a stressful week of studies and the exam today . Im really proud of her because i know that she is doing her best . I wish she was with me for this surgery yet i understand it is not possible because of her exams and expensive flights . I wish that she could nurse be back to recovery .. but im really fortunate to have my family and dad around to support me , something that i might lose after i migrate to melbourne .
My biggest fear for now is heights .even when i take aeroplanes i would feel nervous during those turbulent moments . Those are the moments when i start thinking about the possibilities of what life of others be without me if i really did die. Well,  thats whats going through my mind a day before surgery . Weird eh .. for eg ,  i would think of my company without me, how will it run differently, ( probably not so good as im an awesome employee!!) ,what my family would be like (i know ill be missed ) , or who my gf would end up marrying instead, or if I have achieved the goals that I have set for myself..but it keeps me thinking and it changes a lot of my perspectives and make me want to live life to the fullest .Maybe thats why god gives us these episodes in our lifes ..
Hard tapping on my eee pad to write this down . But all i want to say is that i love my family and shannon .
Love you all and good night.
Wish me the best tomorrow =)
